Why stay at a B&B?
Why stay at a B&B? Because you’re an adventurous, fun-loving traveler who is tired of the same old same old. You like to meet new people and talk with them about their adventures. You like the idea of having your accommodations be something different from what you find everywhere else. You’re not afraid to try new things. But, you like the comfort and security of knowing the owners are looking after you.
We know you have a lot of options for your vacation. Let us sweet talk you with a few reasons why we think you’ll like it here and answer some of those weighty questions you have.
Isn’t it really expensive?
Rumor has it it is pretty expensive to stay at a B&B so it’s only for ‘special’ occasions. Not true! Consider that the cost of going out for breakfast every morning can add $20 plus tax and tip to your daily expenses. Resort fees can add another $20/day. WiFi fees are up to $19.95/day in some places. Don’t even ask how much parking will be! All of those are included in your stay here.
I don’t know what it’s going to be like.
If you’re nervous that it’s not going to be a pleasant experience or that we’re scary innkeepers who will talk your ears off, please read our online reviews. Real guests, just like yourselves, wrote those after staying here. Let us know you’re B&B newbies and we’ll let you know how things work. You can see all the rooms online, have a look at some of the breakfasts we have served and see the layout of the Inn.
B&B’s are for old people.
Yes, they are. And they’re for young people, too. And middle-aged geezers like ourselves. Even little kids like the idea of staying in someone else’s house. (Plus, we have little boxes of cereal that kids love to snack on! Don’t think we haven’t heard that wistful sigh from the 20-something’s, too, when they’ve seen Froot Loops on the shelf…)
You’ll make me eat something strange for breakfast.
Not really. This innkeeper is a fussy eater. (The other innkeeper is not.) We like to plan something really simple, but with a little pizzazz. (Not one of those little boxes of cereal, either!) We do ask that you let us know if something edible will make you sick or violate your religious beliefs. Please don’t assume we know what “I’m a celiac” means. And we can’t cover ‘kosher’ if it means something more than ‘no pork or shellfish.’ Take a look at some of our favorite breakfasts to get an idea what we serve.
I have to talk to strangers.
OK, you’ve got me there. More than likely a stranger WILL greet you in the morning or even say hello as you’re walking through the living room. If this is really going to be a problem, this B&B is not going to work for you. And that’s really ok. There are lots of hotels in town, too. However, if you like to meet new people when you travel, it’s really easy to do that at a B&B! (Some B&B’s have cabins so you’re mostly on your own, give them a try!)
What is there to do?
White Cedar Inn has almost an acre of grounds. You can sit outside on the porch or the patio or the lawn and pretend to catch up on work. (We won’t tell you’ve been staring off into space for an hour!) You can walk into town for shopping or a coffee or a lobster roll. Drive over to the beach or go for a hike. It’s your vacation, what do you want to do?
Do I have my own…?
…TV? Yes, every room has a flat screen TV with satellite service.
…Bathroom? Yes, every room has its own bathroom!
…A/C and heat controls? Yes, if you like to sleep with the windows open in the dead of the winter, go right ahead. Turn the heat off and snuggle under the down duvet!
…Key to get in the house? Yes, we give you access to the house and a key to your room. Come and go as you like.
I stop at every ‘Open House’ I see.
A B&B is for you! You get to come inside, look around and stay! You can read the history and imagine living here 100 years ago.
I’m a non-smoker (or a reformed smoker or allergic to smoke).
We’re a non-smoking Inn! Smoking is not allowed inside. Smoking is allowed outside, away from the building.
What we’re not -
- We’re not a 24 hour hotel. There is no ‘front desk’ to call at 2 AM. We will return your call in the morning when the office reopens at 9 AM.
- We’re not a restaurant. We serve breakfast only.
- We do not have full time staff. If you need 24 hour attention, this is not the right place for you.
- We’re not posh or stuffy or all chrome and glass. We’re casual and laid back and try to remind you of a friend’s summer house in Maine.
- We don’t have a bar or an alcohol serving license. What that means is you can bring your own libations and enjoy them in the house or on the grounds. Not having a license also means we cannot provide alcohol to you in an add-on like the Anniversary Special.
We’re looking forward to meeting you and sharing ‘our Maine’ with you!
